Event Impact
One of the most poignant moments of the event occurred when a competitor shared her story. Her father, a veteran, took his own life when she was a young child. She competed in the AFZ match to honor his memory, reminding everyone of the very real impact suicide has on veterans’ families. Stories like hers underscore the importance of AFZ’s mission and the power of community events like this.
Interviews with other participants echoed this sentiment—many were grateful for the opportunity to support such a critical cause while enjoying a day of camaraderie and competition.
Future Projects and Plans
The funds raised at the 2024 AFZ Falling Steel Match will enable future projects aimed at veteran suicide prevention, including awareness campaigns, veteran support groups, and continued funding for AFZ’s critical work. These initiatives will expand AFZ’s outreach and ensure that more veterans and their families receive the support they need.
